The Process

Day One

  1. We will break the class into groups of three.
  2. Within your group, take a look at the roles that you might assume. While everyone will contribute, choose the role you think suits you best.
  3. Take a look at the client’s wish list by looking at the proposals below:
    1. WebQuest Project 1 – The Bridge
    2. WebQuest Project 2 – The Solar Panels
  4. See how you can solve the problem by using what we’ve learning in class so far about solving right triangles and oblique triangles.
  5. If you need a refresher, we’ve put some online resources within a click right here!
    1. A video refresher on solving right triangles using trigonometry (courtesy mathpoweris4u)
    2. How to solve oblique triangles using the The Law of Sines.
    3. A few words about the Ambiguous Case of The Law of Sines (courtesy Edward Kim).
    4. How to solve oblique triangles using the Law of Cosines, courtesy of Wolfram Math World.
    5. Law of Sines and Law of Cosines Calculator, an Excel Spreadsheet that will allow you to check your work while you are making your calculations.

Day Two

  1. You will notice that there are two projects that the client wishes to have our firm complete. Can we create a plan for him that allows him to stay within budget on each project? If not, can you devise an alternative plan for completing both projects? It might mean revising the project or increasing the budget, or both. You must make an informed decision regarding what is best.
  2. Your findings should be summarized as a report. Working within your role, provide information to the appropriate person in your group. All team members are responsible for ensuring that the calculations are accurate and that the recommendations in the report are correct.
    1. The report should follow normal APA guidelines regarding line spacing, margins, and citation.
    2. If you use any outside resources in your work, be sure to cite them.
  3. You will hand in a final version of your proposals to us at the beginning of class following Day Two.

Have fun and good luck!!!
